The Nemours Foundation, Estate and children’s healthcare system are named after the French town Mr. duPont’s great-grandfather, Pierre Samuel duPont, represented in the court of Louis XVI.
The Nemours Estate®
The Nemours Estate® , with its 77-room mansion and over 200 acres of French-inspired formal gardens, grounds and woodlands, is a rare example of 18th century French neoclassical architecture in America. Built for Alfred I. and Jessie Ball duPont in 1909 and opened to the public in 1977, the Estate today hosts 40,000 visitors annually for self-guided tours and family-friendly community events.
